May You Always

Through Junior High School, I used to listed to an oldies station here in the NY Area - 101.1 CBS-FM. They were replaced by Jack-FM in 2005, but they made the right decision and brought back CBS-FM in the Summer, 2007.

One of the great DJ's on the station was Harry Harrison. I always enjoyed listening to "The Morning Mayor" and the morning team. Though I switched to WPLJ in High School, I still remember a great holiday poem that Harry Harrison used to recite. Check it out here. It's really sweet and really talks about things that matter most. And it brings back a lot of nice memories for me.

You're Only Human

I couldn't have said it better myself. There's a lot on my mind today.

Don't Try So Hard

I started writing a blog, not only to get into the technology/internet age, but also to get things off of my chest, and try to be more positive. I don't want to write negative stuff, and no one wants to read it either. But you know when you have one of those days when you're working hard trying to make things happen and it looks like things are heading in the right direction and things are on track, and then suddenly, BAM! Off the track!? Well, that was my morning. Details aren't necessary... just trust me. But today's events reminded me of a song by the band Queen called Don't Try So Hard. It's on the Queen album "Innuendo," the last album released before Freddie Mercury died. In college, Queen was one of my favorite rock bands. I was sad when Freddie Mercury died from complications of AIDS. I thought he was a uniquely talented singer. College was where I broadend my music spectrum outside of Billy Joel and Elton John. Billy Joel remains my favorite, don't get me wrong!!

Anyway, do a Google Search for the lyrics to Don't Try So Hard and read them. Very powerful lyrics, aren't they? What's the point of trying so hard in this life? If we're all going to derail once in a while, then who cares about trying too hard, right? I don't want fame, or pats on the back or phony recognition. I'm not that egotistical and self-serving that I need all that. But just once in a while, I'd like people to simply be nice. Once in a while, I'd like to not derail when it seems like things are finally going good. Once in a while, I'd like to not let things bother me so much. Because since April 5, 2007, "Nothing really matters, anyone can see. Nothing really matters to me."

Chinese Food

Well, it was nice having a 4 day weekend. Time for work again tomorrow. But it wouldn't have been Christmas Day for my family and me without our yearly share of Chinese Food on Christmas. China Paradise in Wayne has the best Chinese Food around; Always a delicious meal.

And the only other thing opened today was the movies. And even though Tuesdays are supposed to be free with the Optimum Rewards card, Cablevision/Clearview Cinemas decided that since Christmas fell on a Tuesday, the movie should cost $4.00. We didn't know what it was about, but we went to see PS I Love You. If you know what my year has been like, this is a movie that I should have skipped. In general, it's a depressing movie.. don't go see it.

My sister and brother-in-law keep telling me that I should watch Family Guy. I'm watching a little mini-marathon of the show. It's absolutely hysterical! In this ridiculous PC world we live in, it's so refreshing to watch a show that breaks all the rules.

And while on the topic of television, the best show on television is Scrubs. I am most disappointed that this show is affected by the writer's strike. It is brilliantly written and acted, and each show always touches a chord with me. Now it in its last season, it deserves to be written and have a proper finale.
Writing on this blog is fun. I've tried to sign up on newsgroups and message boards, but never got that registration e-mail. This is a great place to write. I even got my palm-pilot from 2002 working again!!! It's good to be in the 21st century! :-)

Forutune?

It's funny.. people are already asking me "Why Forutune Pictures?" Well, I am a big game show fan.. not so much with today's game shows, though I thought "Duel" was very good. Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune are my favorite shows. And when I was producing a video back in high school, I wanted to call my production company "Fortune Pictures." Well, about a year later I noticed a typo in the credits... instead of Fortune, I wrote ForUtune... and it has stuck to this day.

As a Price is Right fan, I am enjoying the show with Drew Carey. But no one can replace Bob Barker, who I've known personally since 1995 when I worked as an intern on Price. So I thought I'd practice my embedding and put some clips from Barker's last Price is Right on my blog. It may work.. it may not, but it's worth a try.

Starting New

Well, I think I made it to the end of the 20th century. I've created a blog! Since I started my new job 2 months ago, I learned about the importance, and the influcence, of blogs. So I thought I'd give it a try. Heck, it's free! But in terms of all this Web 2.0 stuff, I'm not very internet or technology savvy. I use my cell phone to talk.. not text or send pictures or listen to music. I have no idea how to build a webpage, but this blog could be fun!

So while I think of things to write, Happy Holidays to all... and if you haven't seen Sweeney Todd in the movies, I highly recommend it. The movie was very loyal to the Broadway musical, and the singing was surprisingly good!
